Yes, today is my birthday. I’ve jokingly said it’s my first 39th birthday–the next few years will mark “anniversaries of my 39th.” As if I’m denying that 40 is staring me down. But truly, I’ve gotten to the point of being glad for every day I’m alive. I embraced 30 with the knowledge that I was entering my prime decade of young motherhood. (Boy did that prediction come true!) I believe my 40s could very well be one of the most productive decades I experience, should the Lord give me those years. But for now I’ll enjoy my final year of being 30-something. Life is good.
This morning on my way home from dropping my preschooler at preschool, the Lord spoke encouragement to me through the words of a song. He does that often. This one was so life-affirming, so joyful, it was like the refrain of my heart these days. So on this day where it seems everyone is affirming my life (thank you, FB folks!), I want to thank my Jesus for this life he’s given me.
You Are Everything
by Matthew West
(partial lyrics)
You are everything that I live for
Everything that I can’t believe is happening
You’re standing right in front of me
With arms wide open
All I know is
Every day is filled with hope
You are everything that I believe for
And I can’t help but breathe you in
Breathe again
Feeling all this life within
Every single beat of my heart
You’re everything good in my life
Everything honest and true
And all of those stars hanging up in the sky
Could never shine brighter than You
You are everything that I live for
Everything that I can’t believe is happening
You’re standing right in front of me
With arms wide open
All I know is
Every day is filled with hope
You are everything that I believe for
And I can’t help but breathe you in
Breathe again
Feeling all this life within
Every single beat of my heart
You are
You are
Jesus, You are
You are everything
